AFM Calls New Leader

The next executive director of Anglican Frontier Missions will work remotely while AFM retains its headquarters in Richmond, Virginia. The Rev. Christopher Royer of Tulsa, associate rector of Holy Spirit Anglican Church, will become the third executive director of AFM July 21.

AFM called Royer “because of his contagious passion for the unreached and his anointing by the Holy Spirit,” said a release by AFM’s search committee and its board of directors. “He will bring his firsthand experience of planting churches among Muslims in the Middle East and his sensitivity to cross-cultural evangelism/discipleship to support and encourage AFM’s workers. He also brings a deep respect for the church as he advocates on behalf of the unreached to churches across the Anglican Communion.”

Royer, native of Boulder, Colorado, has earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Wheaton College, a master’s of divinity degree from Denver Seminary, and a diploma of Anglican Studies from Trinity School for Ministry.

In 1990 he joined Operation Mobilization and served in a Middle Eastern country. From 1993 to 1994 he lived in South Korea, where he married his wife, Grace. From 1995 to 2006, the Royers pioneered two new churches in the Middle East.

Since then he served at two churches in South Carolina: Church of the Cross, Bluffton, and Christ the King, Pawleys Island. The Royers have two daughters: Daniella, 16, and Stephanie, 15.
