Carey to visit Detroit for Ascension

The Rt. Rev. and Rt. Hon. Lord George Carey, who served as archbishop of Canterbury from 1994 until his retirement in 2002, will visit Detroit, Michigan, on this year’s Feast of the Ascension.

Carey will preach and celebrate at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Woodward Avenue on May 14 at 7:30 p.m., according to a release from the parish. He will also lead worship during the congregation’s weekly 10 a.m. holy communion service on May 17. Both services are free and open to the public.

A dinner banquet will be held in Carey’s honor on May 15 at the Detroit Athletic Club. Tickets, which cost $75 and benefit St. John’s, can be purchased either at http://stjohnsdetroit.eventbrite.com or by calling the church office at (313) 962-7358.
