Dallas Calling

The Diocese of Dallas reports that the Rev. Jordan Hylden will become canon theologian Aug. 1:

Fr. Hylden and his wife, the Rev. Emily Hylden, have lived for the past several years in Columbia, South Carolina, where Emily served as Canon for Young Adults at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and Jordan served as Curate and Assistant for Christian Formation at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Jordan will also serve half time as Associate Editor for The Living Church, and Emily as an associate priest at St. Augustine’s Oak Cliff in Dallas.

Jordan is a doctoral candidate in theology and ethics at Duke University, presently finishing his dissertation on the Catholic philosopher Yves Simon, a student of Jacques Maritain whose pioneering work on Christian democracy was composed after fleeing France with his family in the late 1930s to teach at Notre Dame. His M.Div. is also from Duke (2010), with an A.B. in government from Harvard (2006). He is a 2014 Episcopal Church Foundation Fellow, and has recently taught courses in theology and ethics at Lutheran Southern Theological Seminary (Columbia, SC) and Saint Louis University (St. Louis, MO). He has written a number of academic essays and reviews, along with writing for The Living Church, First Things, Christianity Today, The Christian Century, and other publications.
