The Episcopal Church has released annual parochial data for 2015, indicating continued decline in attendance and membership but an increase in giving.

Kirk Hadaway, the church’s congregational research officer, said the data revealed:

  • Active baptized membership declined by nearly 39,000 persons to 1,917,182 9 (or 2%).
  • Average Sunday (worship) attendance in Episcopal congregations declined by just over 20,000 to 614,241 in 2015 (3.2%).
  • Operating income among domestic congregations increased in 2015, exceeding the 0.7 percent inflation rate the same year (1.2%).

Percentage declines were comparable to those recorded in 2014, which saw a 2.6 percent decline in membership and 3.5 percent decline in attendance.

Reports and additional information are on the Episcopal Church’s Research and Statistics page.
