Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien said his government is in the process of preparing a bill to legalize homosexual unions throughout the country. Mr. Chretien said the change would reflect the "evolution of society." It comes after an Ontario Provincial appeals court earlier this month revised the legal definition of marriage to "the lawful union of two people." Court decisions are also pending in the provinces of British Columbia and Quebec. Public opinion polls in Canada show there is a slight majority in favor of the change. It is unclear what affect the change in law would have on churches in Canada.
