• Third Straight Year of Attendance Loss Likely

• Bishop Griswold Confident Before ACC Meeting

  On the eve of his departure for the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) meeting, Presiding Bishop Frank T. Griswold said he was eager to be helpful and was confident that the delegation he helped assemble will be able to explain how a majority of General Convention deputies could consent to a “partnered” homosexual person as bishop.

• Executive Council Lowers Payout Rate From Endowment Funds

  Concerned about the example that it would be setting for the rest of the Episcopal Church if it authorized a potentially unsustainable payout from endowment funds for the 2007-2009 budget cycle, Executive Council members, in a close vote, lowered the payout ratio to 5 percent from the 5.5 percent rate that applies during the 2003-2006 triennium.

• Council Proposes Unofficial GC Conversation on Israel

  Presiding Bishop Frank T. Griswold and the president of the House of Deputies, the Very Rev. George L. Werner, told members of the national Executive Council they would like to include an unofficial “study and prayerful consideration of the issues surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict” in the 2006 General Convention calendar.

  The Rt. Rev. John Sentamu, Bishop of Birmingham (England), has been named Archbishop of York, the No. 2 position in the Church of England. The appointment was announced Friday by the prime minister.
