The Rt. Rev. Catherine S. Roskam will be the only Episcopalian at the upcoming Anglican Consultative Council meeting to serve in two capacities. She is part of the unofficial delegation of observers from the Episcopal Church that includes the Rev. Robert L. Sessum, rector of Church of the Good Shepherd in Lexington, Ky., and Josephine H. Hicks.

Ms. Hicks, a lawyer from North Carolina was not present for the June 13-16 executive council meeting in Louisville, Ky., and the Bishop suffragan of New York was not present for the final plenary, council members were told, because of their Nottingham travel schedules.

Executive council unanimously passed a resolution “commending to God’s care” the Episcopal Church members chosen to respond to the Anglican Consultation Council meeting in Nottingham, England June 18-29. In a communiqué issued after their February meeting in Northern Ireland, the primates separately invited the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Church of Canada to withdraw their ACC representatives and produce an explanation “in the light of the developments in Anglican life in North America” surrounding homosexuality.

In addtion to Bishop Roskam, Bishop Griswold has also asked the Rt. Rev. J. Neil Alexander, Bishop of Atlanta; the Rev. Michael Battle, associate dean of academic affairs and vice president of Virginia Theological Seminary; the Rt. Rev. Charles E. Jenkins III, Bishop of Louisiana; the Rev. Susan Russell, President of Integrity and executive director at All Saints, Pasadena, Calif.; and Mrs. Jane Tully of Clergy Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (C-FLAG) to be part of that presentation.

“We pray that the spirit of truth, who pours God’s love into our hearts, will bind mission of healing, reconciliation, and repair,” the council resolution stated.
