The Rt. Rev. Dorsey Henderson, Bishop of Upper South Carolina, is the senior bishop on the Title IV Review Committee and will be responsible for overseeing the first meeting date and the process of appointing officers. Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold made a number of changes to the committee last month during the 75th General Convention in Columbus, Ohio.
The new episcopal members of the committee are: Bishop Henderson, the Rt. Rev. David C. Jones, Bishop Suffragan of Virginia; the Rt. Rev. C. Wallis Ohl, Jr., Bishop of Northwest Texas; the Rt. Rev. Bavi Edna “Nedi” Rivera, Bishop Suffragan of Olympia; and the Rt. Rev. James E. Waggoner, Jr., Bishop of Spokane. The Very Rev. George L. Werner, president of the House of Deputies, reappointed the same slate of two clergy and three lay members. They are: J.P. Causey, Jr. of West Point, Va.; the Very Rev. H. Scott Kirby, dean of Christ Church Cathedral, Eau Claire, Wis.; the Rev. Carolyn Sue Kuhr, rector of St. Patrick’s, Big Fork, Mont.; and Ms. Deborah J. Stokes of Westerville, Ohio.
The committee is expected to address the abandonment of communion complaint against the Rt. Rev. John-David Schofield, Bishop of San Joaquin, at its first meeting to be held no later than mid September. This would enable the House of Bishops to debate whether to depose Bishop Schofield at their fall meeting, which is scheduled before the investiture of the Rt. Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori as the 26th Presiding Bishop on Nov. 4.
