The nominating committee for the election of a Bishop Coadjutor in the Diocese of Virginia has extended the deadline for nominations until Sept. 13 in order to accommodate vacationing clergy and parishioners.
Through questionnaires and listening events, the nominating committee has gathered the views of members to help discern the qualities sought in its next bishop. These have been published in a profile, which is published on the internet or by contacting the diocesan office. Additional information, including the nomination form, is also available at the website created by the nominating committee.
During the annual council meeting, on Jan. 27, 2007, clergy and lay delegates will elect a successor to the Rt. Rev. Peter James Lee, who was installed as diocesan May 27, 1985. Pending consents from a majority of bishop and diocesan standing committees, the new bishop will be consecrated May 26, 2007, at Washington National Cathedral.
