The Rt. Rev. Miguel Paredes Yamoyam, provincial secretary of the Episcopal Church in the Philippines, suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and was expected to undergo surgery Sunday night or today, according to the Most Rev. Ignacio Capuyan Soliba, Prime Bishop and Moderator, who said that Bishop Yamoyam was conscious but unable to speak.

Bishop Yamoyam became ill Oct. 27 in Dearborn, Mich., during a meeting of the Executive Council of The Episcopal Church. The Philippine church and four other covenant partners were invited by Council to observe and to report on Anglican mission and ministry during the meeting Oct. 26-28 in Dearborn. Bishop Yamoyam became ill on Saturday and was unable to complete his presentation, according to Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori, who briefed council during its closing plenary.

“He is not doing well and we need to pray for him,” she said. His family was on the way to the United States to be with him, she added. The Rev. Canon C.K. Robertson, canon to the Presiding Bishop, brought Bishop Yamoyam communion from the reserved sacrament of Christ Church, Dearborn, the location where Bishop Jefferts Schori preached and council worshiped on Sunday morning.
