  Metropolitan Kirill was overwhelmingly elected Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Jan. 27. He will be enthroned Feb. 1 as the successor to Patriarch Alexy II, who died in December.

• Northern Michigan Bishop Nominee Has Background in Buddhism

  In 2004, the diocese's former bishop, the late James Kelsey, recognized the Rev. Kevin Thew Forrester, now the diocese's sole nominee for bishop, for having “received Buddhist ‘lay ordination’,” saying he was “walking the path of Christianity and Zen Buddhism together.”

• Virginia Council: Bless Same-Sex Unions with Unauthorized Liturgies
