  • Church Attorney to Bishop Bennison: Don't Release Letters

    The ecclesiastical Court for the Trial of a Bishop has issued a temporary gag order prohibiting Bishop Charles Bennison of Pennsylvania from making public letters that he claims would exonerate him of charges that he failed to report sexual misconduct commmitted by his brother.

  • Fr. Armstrong: Misunderstanding Led to Missed Court Date

    A bench warrant, issued shortly after the Rev. Don Armstrong failed to appear for a scheduled court hearing on May 27, was due to a misunderstanding and quickly quashed, according to to Fr. Armstrong, who said his lawyer accompanied him to court and resolved the matter to the satisfaction of the judge.

  • 80-Year-Old Woman Accused of Theft from Church

    An 80-year-old woman who served as treasurer of a charitable women’s group at St. Stephen’s Church, New Port Richey, Fla., is accused of stealing $44,000 by writing checks made out to cash. The alleged theft came from an account that is separate from the parish operating budget.

  • Disgraced Florida TV Priest Joins Episcopal Church

    The Rev. Alberto Cutié, the Roman Catholic priest and TV host who was removed from his parish after a magazine published photos of him kissing a woman on a beach, has been received into The Episcopal Church. But the Most Rev. John C. Favalora, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Miami, said Fr. Cutié has not been released from his vows to the Roman Catholic priesthood.

  • San Joaquin Bishops Reflect on Depositions

    The Rt. Rev. John-David Schofield, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of San Joaquin, said it was “with a mixture of sadness and joy” that he learned that members of the clergy who left The Episcopal Church were deposed by his successor as the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin.

  • Covenant Working Group Announced

    The task force charged with revising the fourth section of the proposed Anglican Covenant will consist of four members from the previous 12-member task force. Neither of the Episcopalians on the original Covenant Design Group was included on the new working group.

  • 3 Bishops, ACI Call for Email Investigation

    Allegations of conduct unbecoming a member of the clergy will be lodged by three bishops against a member of the national Executive Council and the president of Integrity in response to the misappropriation and publication of private correspondence.

  • CDSP Dean Won’t Seek New Term

    Donn Morgan said he will not seek another term as president and dean of Church Divinity School of the Pacific when his contract concludes in June 2010.

  • Bishop Rivera Pioneers ‘New Model of Episcopate’

    The Rt. Rev. Bavi “Nedi” Rivera, Suffragan Bishop of Olympia since 2004, was installed as provisional Bishop of Eastern Oregon May 23. She said the diocese was in the midst of a transition and would need to consider new ways of doing ministry.

  • Easton Bishop to Head VTS Board

    Bishop James Shand of Easton was elected chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Theological Seminary, replacing Bishop Peter Lee of Virginia, who will step down June 30.
