Church Publishing, the official publisher of worship materials and other resources for The Episcopal Church, announced recently that it is implementing a 30 percent staff reduction and suspending acquisitions of new trade books for its Seabury Books imprint because of the general decline currently affecting the publishing industry.

The suspension only affects future acquisitions, according to Nancy Fisher, director of communications for the Church Pension Group, of which Church Publishing is an affiliate company. Books already under contract will be delivered and the company will continue to support backlisted titles.

Ms. Fisher said that Church Publishing would continue to monitor the market and will increase the number of its titles available for Amazon’s Kindle electronic book reader.
