'Defense of Marriage' Concern Will Get Further Review
During the final business session of General Convention on July 17, the House of Bishops turned back Resolution C023: Same-Sex Unions—Defense of Marriage Statutes, voting to refer the resolution to a standing committee of The Episcopal Church in the final legislative act at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Equal Access Resolution Rejected in House of Deputies
General Convention’s House of Deputies declined to concur with the House of Bishops on an amended version of Resolution C061, which states that all baptized persons have equal access to the discernment process of this church. The action took place on Friday at the Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, Calif.

Rule on Consent to Bishops' Elections Changed
Pleased with the efficiency with which the House of Deputies was able to dispatch with resolutions submitted by the Standing Commission on Prayer Book, Liturgy and Music, the House of Deputies of General Convention voted on Friday afternoon to suspend the rules of order to permit all committees to give their reports at once.

General Convention's House of Deputies suspended rules of order permitting the Standing Commision on Prayer Book, Liturgy and Church Music to submit all resolutions for consideration as a single block during the final afternoon session July 17 in Anaheim, Calif. The special rule was proposed after discussion over a handful of resolutions had already been engaged.

Letter to Archbishop of Canterbury Defends D025 Adoption
In a letter dated July 16 and hand-delivered to Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, Presiding Bishop, and Bonnie Anderson, president of the House of Deputies, sought to explain the significance of the passage of Resolution D025 by the General Convention.

Ouster of Honduran President Supported
In a late session of General Convention on Friday, the House of Bishops beat back a push to gut a resolution calling for The Episcopal Church to back the people of Honduras in the face of sanctions leveled by the Organization of American States (OAS) in the wake of the ouster of President Mel Zelaya.

Thirty speakers used just about every adjective imaginable to describe Resolution C056 at General Convention July 17 during an hour of debate on the resolution which is widely seen as authorizing the beginning of the process of developing a formal liturgy for same-sex marriage.
