RECOMMENDED: Bishop Ted Gulick of Kentucky has been recommended by Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori to be a part-time provisional Bishop of the reorganizing Diocese of Fort Worth. A special election will be held at a reorganizing convention Feb. 7.

Phillips Brooks
A statue outside Trinity Church, Boston, honors the life and ministry of Phillips Brooks, that church's longtime rector. A renowned preacher and author, he also briefly served as Bishop of Massachusetts. His feast day is January 23.

Robinson inauguration
INAUGURAL PRAYER: Bishop V. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire is scheduled to deliver a prayer at a Jan. 18 inaugural event for President-elect Barack Obama. Bishop Robinson told the Associated Press "I will be careful not to be especially Christian in my prayer."

Julia Chester Emery
MISSIONARY FERVOR: Julia Chester Emery, whose life and ministry are celebrated January 9, served as national secretary of the Women's Auxiliary of the Board of Missions from 1876 to 1916. She visited every diocese in the Episcopal Church, as well as several foreign countries, to support and stir up Christian missionary work.
