Speakers Resist Flyover

Adapted from Episcopal News Update, Diocese of Los Angeles

A 55-foot, $43-million Caltrans flyover bridge must not be built just east of St. John’s Pro-Cathedral, opponents said at a public hearing Feb. 23, citing adverse effects of noise, pollution, visual obstructions, and lack of a full environmental impact report.

Representatives of Los Angeles City Council Members Gil Cedillo and Curren Price spoke and submitted documentation against the project. Attorney Jack Rubens presented detailed points of opposition on behalf of St. John’s Pro-Cathedral, after remarks by the cathedral’s deans, the Very Rev. Canon Mark Kowalewski and the Very Rev. Canon Daniel Ade.

Three speakers, one from the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, supported the project.

The Rt. Rev. Jon Bruno, Bishop of Los Angeles, provides more background on this webpage.
