The Church of the Province of Tanzania has asked for prayer as it prepares to elect an archbishop Feb. 21.

The Most Rev. Valentino Mokiwa has served his first five-year term as archbishop and primate of the province and is eligible for re-election. He was elected in February 2008 during a special session of the Provinces’ General Synod at Tanzania’s capital, Dodoma.

Archbishop Mokiwa succeeded the Most Rev. Donald Mtetemela, who served two five-year terms.

“According to our constitution, any bishop can be elected,” said the Rev. Canon Dickson Chilongani, provincial secretary.
