Trinity School for Ministry’s board of trustees has appointed the Rev. Henry “Laurie” Thompson III as interim dean and president. He will take office July 1. The dean and president is the senior administrator and chief academic officer of the seminary and is responsible for all daily operations and fundraising.

“Laurie Thompson is a superb leader and pastor and he has been an important senior administrator at Trinity for many years,” said Douglas Wicker, board chairman. “He is intimately familiar with all aspects of the operation of the school and he will be able to take the reins without missing a beat.”

“I am humbled to be asked to serve as Trinity’s interim dean and president,” Thompson said. “I have a deep love for this school, and I look forward to continuing my work with the board, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and supporters in this new role.

“I feel called to lead the seminary through this transition, but ultimately Trinity will need a younger dean and president to reach the next generation of leaders. I trust that the Lord will lead us to that person in due course.”

Thompson first came to Trinity in 1997 after 19 years in parish ministry. He has led the Doctor of Ministry program since 2001 and has served as dean of administration. Most recently, as dean of advancement, he played an important role in a Reach for the Harvest campaign that raised $15.4 million for various strategic initiatives. Thompson and his wife, Mary, have three grown children and nine grandchildren.
